Hi Todd,
I tested last release, and this version is much better than pervious. I was waiting for your answer by Gmail, but...??
I have some remarks:
1. I wrote you about 'of' which is in line 580 of overlay.js and is displayed in the notification alerts. This 'of' should be translated. In the Polish localization I have to use 'z' instead 'of'.
2. In the same notification alerts aren't displayed Polish characters. I coded \uxxxx but in the notification alerts are displayed '['and something else.
3. In the option dialog item 'Icon placement' are displayed names of bars from browser default language (en-US). I think it's not good idea. In the pervious version was displayed from gmanager.dtd, line 53-57.
[right][snapback]5649[/snapback][/right]

Hey teo, very sorry not to get back to you by email and sooner. Hopefully I can answer all of your questions below:

1. Your absolutely right about that 'of' needing to be in the locales.

2. Not quite sure why the alerts aren't displaying the polish characters correctly. I believe I have the encoding set to UTF-8. Were the characters being displayed correctly in previous versions? I definitely want to make sure that works for you.

3. The reason why the toolbar names are displayed in browser default language is because they are pulled directly from the current browser you are using. Before I had these values hard coded which allowed for me to give them clean looking names and place those strings in the .dtd. The reason I moved away from that is because these toolbar names differ from Firefox, Mozilla, Flock, Netscape, and so on. I will look to see if I can gather up all the toolbar names and then code them for easy localization.

Please let me know if there is anything else you need me to clear up. Again, I am sorry for not getting back to you sooner!

Thanks,
TL

copy-paste what?
strings in the window can be pasted by select and d&d ;-)

Yes, you are right.

(what I meant is smile.gif
Some developers had the habit (before the WTS was on) to fill every locale file with english strings before sending their xpi to translators. Doing this :
- their xpi was always functionnal (though in english for all !) in case translators could not do their job in due time before official release.
- translators had just to substitute their strings to the english ones, instead of copying the whole line with <!ENTITY and the rest.

But :
- It was a little work more for developers to copy/paste their new/modified strings in every locale file (think of the numerous language packs of some extensions)

Now : if the dev spares his time and does not fill with english strings, it is ok for translators on the wts who immediately spot the missing strings because of yellow background. wink.gif

In the 0.2.1 version was the same problem.

[right][snapback]5659[/snapback][/right]

The import option works only when the extension is first installed. For the next version I will change that so that it may be accessed at any time (prob add an export feature as well).

Todd,
I instaled this new release on new profile, without any extensions and I don't see import accounts and I can't add any accounts. I made this probe because on the old profile I still saw bad encoding in the notification window. How is now, I can't check becuse I can't make account.

You're not alone
I've the same situation sad.gif
I installed the updated extension on a new profile, created for this test, without other extensions
I clicked (right click) on the mail-icon and I selected "Add account..."
In the new window I inserted my username and my password (both containing only allowed characters !), but when I clicked on OK (as last confirmation) the extension "didn't register" my account data
I fear isn't responsible the nightly build, because I noticed this same "strange behaviour" also using FF 1.0.7 Official Release + a new profile sad.gif

You may find my updated Italian localization here, update that I can't test sad.gif

Hey, Teo

The import accounts is only shown if you previously had Gmail Notifier installed with saved accounts in Firefox's password manager. So, if you install the extension on a new profile with no other extensions the import option will never appear. Maybe you are thinking of a different type of import system? If so, please let me know as that may be an option to add.

As for not being able to add accounts what is the username you are trying to add? Remember not to include @gmail.com because the @ character is invalid for a username and it will not take. I just tried on a clean profile with some of my accounts and they added fine. I believe the only valid characters that Gmail accepts are a-z, 0-9, and period (.). Please let me know so I can resolve this issue. Also, when you click "OK" for adding a new account does that dialog box disappear? Thanks.

Gulp
It was the responsabile ! blink.gif
When I tried to create the new account(s) the first time, I added the "@gmail.com"
I tried again 2 minutes ago without adding it (as suggested), and it worked fine ! biggrin.gif
I noticed also another thing: If I update the extension, but in the previous version I had inserted the "@gmail.com" I have to remove it [renaming the account(s)] before updating, otherwise the extension 'doesn't see' the existing accounts rolleyes.gif
Please Teo, may you confirm this ?
Thanks

That's definitely a relief that it is working now. Thanks for the reply back about that.

Yeah the "@gmail.com" may have been creating problems checking mail for you in past versions as well (not sure if you were having issues with that). I guess it would be nice for the extension to let the user know why exactly the account was not added.

Also, you may be seeing some not correct background color under the Preferences... this will be resolved before the public release as well.

Exactly, it was the same
In the previous version 0.2.2 I had added "@gmail.com", and the extension worked fine
So, I didn't imagine that I had to remove it before updating or in case of new installation
LOL, the mystery has been solved !

+1
I agree !
It could be useful also creating a sort of "Note" or "FAQ (?)" on your site, or addind a tooltip Warning! Don't add "@gmail.com" in the user name field.; or both in order to avoid many many support request(s) !!! tongue.gif

Thanks smile.gif
And finally, I tested and improved the Italian localization cool.gif

French locale done.

Please look our translations before reupdate our files, it's boring to retranslate 36000 times the same things wink.gif

[Goofyedit] smile.gif no offense meant, just mentionning it is very useful and time-saving when you upload for an update to include all the already existing locales you have in hands - I don't know if it is the problem here, just informing in case...]

Todd,
1. Still in the notification popup are improper polish characters.
2. Problem solution with new account will be add to accounts.xul file in line 38 new line like this
CODE
<label value="@gmail.com"/>
and change minwidth="100px" in line 37 and 42.
user posted image
3. You forgot insert in line 227 'overlay.js file
CODE
this._bundle.getString("of")
instead 'of'

What is improper polish? Like when you receive a notification popup saying "1 of 3"?

The only reason I don't have the "@gmail.com" is because to the left of the input box it says "Username:" and not "Email:". I will allow for the extension to accept both methods this way I don't have to add in the "@gmail.com" and can do all the work in the background.

Thanks, TL

The .properties contains two %S for 'You have 1 new message' so that it can use 'message' and 'messages' appropriately. Looked like it may have only contained one %S perhaps. Let me know if you notice anything else.

Todd,
I wrote you many times. In this notification is bug! I have two %S. Not only message and messages (polish - wiadomość and wiadomości) are wrong. Also 'new' (polish - nową) is wrong. Colorued polish character are bad displayed. This is something wrong with encoding.
