I put a very simple tutorial here :

(though most translators know about, I discovered developers sometimes may not )

Or you can use the Quick Locale Switcher. Which adds a menu item to your Ff Tools menu, from where you can just click your prefered locale (same list as in the WTS). The selected locale will just be written in the general.useragent.locale preference, without further checks/auto restart.

Not sure if there's a question for this extension, but I had 5 minutes to spare at work...
There are some extensions out there that do simillar things, but just not as simple as this I think. I am not sure if I'll release this one "officially", just let me know what I should do.

It is of course already prepared to get localized smile.gif

Sorry but I think I take the weird little hat, the big front teeth and the long nose for this one. biggrin.gif

It wasn't the extension translation that didn't agree with my FF, it was the swedish Moz translation! ops.gif

I got it off mozilla.se and it or my FF had issues, I guess - or maybe I simply can't install and use the swedish Moz translation in my Firefox 1.5.0.1.

There is no english lang pack for Firefox. It's totally ridiculous, but I won't suggest it anywhere after being told by a few people I tried suggesting it to, to "just go MAKE it". blink.gif What snobby elitist linux nerds you can find on moznet. *shrugs*

laugh.gif Dear AlleyKat

I am still puzzled here, your explanations are (for me huh.gif ) even more confusing than your previous questions biggrin.gif
So these are mine, out of sheer curiosity rolleyes.gif

1. Why a Danish translator has to install a swedish Moz translation on his Firefox to test an extension ?

2. Why in hell do you need an english langpack for Firefox ? huh.gif
I always thought english was the default lang for this app but maybe I miss something somewhere (?)

I must say I'm a bit confused too... huh.gif

Here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/fir...0.1/linux-i686/ you find al sorts off localizations for FF 1.5.0.1 release builds... rolleyes.gif

I'm relieved to know that my translation wasn't at fault... cool.gif

Well, to help hiroshi ofcourse. smile.gif I did like you, put dk and sv translations in the xpi... thats where the chain broke, beacuse I didn't want to post it untill I had tested it (the files looked 100% ok, but..) so I installed swedish to test...

QUOTE

To test translations properly. You often don't know the exact meaning or context of all settings unless you see them in context, so it is to ensure a better quality of my translations.

It is, but most of the national teams make their own: Go on Moz and download any national-language pack FF - do they have english in them? Danish does not. And danish users are presented with the danish FF on the site, not the english one, by default when they come to download.
I'm not saying english isn't default - I'm just saying it isn't included in the distros.

smile.gif Hope that clears up some of my messy ramblings. laugh.gif

Sure. And again - if you want to install another language, you can either uninstall and reinstall your FF, or install on top. Should this be nessecary? I think not.

Dear AlleyKat, each time you want to see what is the en-US interface, just change the general.useragent.locale for en-US (without installing another FF !) as described in this little howto, but the process is even much easier with the celebrated Captain Caveman's Quick Locale Switcher extension biggrin.gif

OK. Well now I *do* have english AND danish in my mozilla and I like being able to switch between them. I must admit to using Locale switcher instead of Quick Locale Switcher.

Are you telling me that it had english all along, it's just not listed in the translations or otherwise accessible?

http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.or....0.1/win32/xpi/ rolleyes.gif Seems I was totally wrong about no english package. I wonder why Google and the users of #Firefox didn't know that - oh well, live and learn. cool.gif

my previous post was just to show links to firefox for mac and its language packs, and to say i enjoy seeing how different localizations work by using "quick locale switcher". that's all.

i didn't mean every firefox has en language pack from the first.
when it comes to firefox for mac, each language version contains its language pack only at first.
strangely, there's only en-gb (no en-us) language pack listed for mac, while there's both en-gb and en-us language packs listes for win...

smile.gif Dear friends
I hope you don't mind if I moved your posts about language packs available or not out from the update notifier extension topic (to which they were not relevant I think)
