Welcome! welcomeani.gif

Just a bit of information for you: in case you have some queries about the WTS, you can find our Wiki here!

In case you're looking for a specific translator, please see the list of available translators on BabelZilla.
When you select the desired one, you can send him/her a P.M. or an e-mail (if and when public).

You may also insert a new Topic in the Help Section, in order to ask for specific translations, to write a general request about missing translations, etc.

Please note that many of the locale codes already in the extension are not commonly used anymore. E.g., de-DE and fr-FR are now simply de and fr, respectively, etc. See http://l10n.mozilla-community.org/webdashboard/ for the most recent Mozilla locale codes

Hello everyone!

I'm very excited about the new functionality in this release of Send Later 3! Please see http://blog.kamens.us/send-later-3/#notes-4.0beta1 for all the details.

This new functionality requires a number of new and modified strings, which I would love to have your help translating! Here are details about the changes, to assist you in your translation efforts. Downloading the new version of the add-on and giving it a try will also probably help you to understand the strings.

  • prompt.dtd
    • sendlater.prompt.textbox.label is displayed to the left of the text box in the pop-up dialog into which the user enters the time and date for sending the message.
    • sendlater.prompt.textbox.tooltip is the tooltip for the time/date entry text box.
    • sendlater.prompt.textbox.emptytext is the explanatory text that is displayed in grey in the text box when no text has been entered yet.
    • sendlater.toolbar.textbox.emptytext is the explanatory text that is displayed in grey in the text box in the compose window toolbar when no text has been entered yet. It is shorter than the explanatory text in the pop-up dialog because the text box in the dialog is wider.
    • sendlater.prompt.every.label is displayed to the left of the recurrence multiplier text box. For example if the user has indicated that he wants a daily recurring message to be sent every 2 days rather than every days, then the UI will say "Every 2 days", where "Every" is this string, "2" is the contents of a textbox, and "days" is as described below.
  • prompt.properties
    • sendaround prefixes the scheduled send date in the send later button in the pop-up dialog.
    • entervalid is displayed in the send later button in the pop-up dialog when the user has not yet entered a valid date/time in the text box.
    • plural_* are used to display the recurrence multiplier as described above (see sendlater.prompt.every.label).
    • every_* are used when displaying the recurrence interval of a scheduled message in the "Send Later" column of the drafts folder or in the "x-send-later-at" message header. The "%S" in this string will be replaced with a number, e.g., "every 2 days".
    • everyempty is displayed next to the checkbox for indicating that the user wants a monthly message to be sent every time on the same day of the week and week of the month, before the day and week are actually known, i.e., before a valid date/time has been entered.
    • everymonthly will look like, e.g., "3rd Tuesday of the month", when the user has entered a valid date/time and selected monthly recurrence. In this string, %1$S will be replaced with one of the ord* strings described below, and %2$S will be replaced with one of the day* strings described below. You can put them anywhere in the translated string in any order that makes sense for your language.
    • day* are the days of the week, with Sunday repesented by 0.
    • ord* are 1st, 2nd, etc. to indicate which week of the month. If your language supports abbreviations for these, please use them, to keep the string as short as possible.
  • prefwindow.dtd
    • checktimepref2.label has been changed from "milliseconds" to "minutes" because the check interval is now being measured in minutes rather than milliseconds.
    • checktimepref.tooltip has a similar change.
    • showsendlaterentry.caption replaces showsendlaterdropdowns.caption, since what we're putting in the toolbar is no longer a set of dropdowns but rather is a text box.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Hi jik,

could you please give an example for the 'everymonthly' string:
QUOTE
%1$S %2$S of the month

Or maybe you can tell me how I can test this. I'm not sure if the translation is correct, because I don't know what "%1$S" and "%2$S" are standing for.

Oh, one more thing: During testing I realized, that in the Send Later dialog, the "Send about" button stays grayed out, even if it hits the right date. The button next to the entry on the toolbar, on the other hand, works just fine.
Is it just me or has anyone else this problem?
Btw, the "send about" dates obviously don't work quite like the English examples, not even if I combine the English keywords with German expressions, but if I just enter something like "Juli" , "Die" (Tue), "15:00", or the German standard date like "7. September 2014" etc., it works quite well. So I adapted the examples you provided accordingly. I hope you're ok with that.

%1$S is (in English) "first", "second", "third", "fourth", or "fifth", and %2$S is a weekday, so for example the entire string might expand to "second Tuesday of the Month".

The problem you mentioned with the button remaining greyed out might be resolved by the new version of the date-parsing library I'm expecting to be released soon, which should include significant improvements in parsing dates in languages other than English. Let's wait until we can test that new version before we pursue it further. The enhanced date parsing in the new version of the library might also prompt you to update your examples, which you're absolutely right should be language-specific.

Thanks,

jik

Ok, thanks for the example.

The German locale is finished now, and will be released soon.

Hi jik

As suggested in your mail, I've tested the new beta 6 of 4.0 and reviewed strings, some according to the changes and some others for better comprehension (of course, I've tested the rezipped addon). French translation is ready for release.

I noticed that when I open the send later dialog, the "explanatory text" is NOT displayed in the text box (1st screenshot below)
Attached File  Screenshot___10_07_2012___23_57_57.png ( 18.45K ) Number of downloads: 12

Instead, the box is empty with the cursor blinking waiting for a keystroke.
But when you leave the box empty and check a period radio button, then the text appears ( 2nd screenshot below)
Attached File  Screenshot___10_07_2012___23_58_23.png ( 20.5K ) Number of downloads: 15

I think it would be more userfriendly if readable when prompt is displayed, and when you start to type in the box, the sample text gets cleared.
Just in a way to help users who discover the new version, a fortiori new users, to understand what they are expected to do. They may not realize they have a tooltip help when hovering the box.

By the way: very good improvements!

The behavior you are seeing, with the explanatory text not visible until you click away from the box, is a core Thunderbird issue that is already fixed in the prerelease version, so the fix should make it out to the general public in the next month or two.
