Hello members,
is it not correct to ask the members to translate a extension? I ask the member dotancohen: What do you think about joining the team, checking and correcting only 5 different small strings for "Send without save" a Thunderbird extension? And he wrotes on Mozilla: The author of this extension uses spam tactics to promote it. In particular, I received an unsolicited PM to my Babelzilla account (used to translate Mozilla extensions) with this content: "What do you think about joining the team, checking and correcting only 5 different small strings for "Send without save" a Thunderbird extension? I think he is on the false place, or what do you think? |

A very large portion of my translators joined on after an unsolicited PM from me. Not just for new locales, but to update old ones after someone has gone inactive. I simply wouldn't be able to get things done here if I didn't PM people to ask. So long as you ask nicely, this is pretty much the main reason we have PMs here as far as I'm concerned.
In all fairness to the person you asked, however, it doesn't look like dotancohen is a very active translator so not being used to this isn't that far fetched. I generally would recommend asking translators with more locales completed first, not that there's really anything wrong with asking anyone who is registered to do so. That being said, asking around here does not qualify as a "spam tactic" unless you're asking a dozen people at once about the same locale. -------------------- |

imho ask to translate something there is a forums(below, in forum lists) everything else is spam, promoting own extension, not polite, etc. personally I definetely don't want to get such PM.

@Abaum
I don`t think there is anything wrong with asking via PM since sometimes we need get busy away from babelzilla and these PM`s bring us back, if one does not like the message just give it a delete. Cheers. Live better, respect others. -------------------- أن أكرمكم عند الله أتقاكم
