Hello Goofy, is there a function like the compare-locales, where i can see what has to be done and nothing else?

No there is not unfortunately, as you can see you have to browse the list and spot the x of y Strings translated = n %
for every file, which is quite annoying in your case, since it seems you translated everything .
The missing parts of the 100% are just some non-standard files xhtml, js and some oddities, that I think you have done too, so the percentage counter is not fully trustworthy when files are different from .dtd or .properties.

I can see you already started the Polish Spicebird project
which is great, but you should also contact teo and possibly start a new topic on the Polish BabelZillian forum
in order to let you language community informed, maybe gather a little team and so on.

Sure it is a big challenge, considering there seems to be no TB or Sunbird file available for Arabic (to be confirmed).
I suggest you MUST create a team before drowning in strings deep soup
maybe contact Arabic translators for Firefox(?) and ask for contributions.

Is it possible to create one point where translators can post those problems. If translators can't understand the meaning, this can be handled as a bug, sunilmohan already created one to clarify such a discussion.

Commonly, requests for clarifications can be posted in the add-on's (or in this case the langpack's) thread, meaning right here in this case. It is up to the author whether he/she prefers to get bug reports in a separate way or in this thread too. It basically depends on the question whether providing clarity could be helpful to other translators as well; then the topic is the right place

Hello, what happens with the changes done in Thunderbird files ? Is it possible to create a diff with the original cvs ? This diff will can be sent to the locale bugzilla, whenever the translater wants.

I think yes it is possible, yesterday night on the irc Sunil said he wrote a script to migrate back BZ files to cvs (if I understood). But I am not very sure it is necessary to send a diff. With bugreports on their bugzilla then can manage quite well (I suppose)

I was going to remind you to do this. There is a diff in l10n/de/collab/pachtes directory of the Spicebird SVN. You can raise a bug and the submit this patch.

All languages are going have changes done to Thundebird and Calendar as patches in Spicebird SVN. This is to make it easy to submit changes to upstream.

Fred has access to the entire Spicebird SVN. He has been submitting patches (slowly increasing in size and complexity) to improve the code.

Any one willing to contribute patches to the code is welcome. Start submitting patches in the Bugzilla first and gain access to the SVN.

mmmh I imagine it is a kind of "attachment" to a message. When you receive the message which is tagged with a todo by the sender, there is some alert or slider telling you : "Do you want to add task so and so to your calendar?"

Hi to everybody. As required in the Italian BabelZillian, I have translated all the files in the "collab" folder. However, nearly 9% of the phrases are still missing. After a check, they are mainly related to files in the folder "messenger".
Goofy, you have transferred the existing Italian translation of Thunderbird to Spicebird. Do you think these phrases do need to be translated, also if they do not belong to "collab", because they are missing also in Thunderbird?

I think yes they need translation, but I am not sure, I will ask sunilmohan and report here asap (other translators may be interested)

Spicebird code for 0.7 is based on April 12th Mozilla code. By then Italian team did not update their translations leaving out this 9% gap. But I see that in the latest code, they have completed these translations.

Although a bit difficult, I will somehow get those finished translations to work for us. So, please don't bother with that 9% of strings. I will initiate the review process for Italian Spicebird now.

2) Parallely, if there are not big issues, I will commit the translations to the code repository.
3) Automatic builds of Spicebird Italian 0.7pre and Italian language packs for 0.7pre will be build and uploaded to files.spicebird.org everynight. Please use them for testing and review work.
4) Please register and account at bugzilla.spicebird.org. I will create a component in the Bugzilla for Italian with default assignee as you so that Italian users/testers could report bugs.
5) If you want to manage Italian translations yourself directly to SVN code repository, please raise a bug in the Bugzilla asking for an SVN account.

Now there are also windows nightly builds. if you want to test your localization you can do the following:

3.) Download the localization from babelzilla and install it.

He seems to have last logged in on July 26th, but since it is summer season he might be on holiday...

Hi, im translating the da-DK locale, but i have messed up one thing. I wanted to upload a new dictionary and babelzilla failed with copy paste so i uploaded a da-DK.dic and when that didnt work a en-US.dic which didnt work either. Now status says 837 % complete. can one of you remove those two files?

I think our status should be between 99,3 % to 100% but downt know now.

Congratulations on completing the localization of Spicebird to Danish. I have started the process of initial commit to Spicebird repository and completed most of it. The progress is being tracked at http://bugzilla.spicebird.org/show_bug.cgi?id=689

There are one things that you need to do. Register an account at Spicebird Bugzilla so that I can create a pt-PT component. This will allow emails regarding bugs reported against pt-PT to reach you and CC yourself to the bug at the above URL. Then start testing once nightly builds are ready

Hi, folks. I'm kind of new on this forum, so please excuse my ignorance in Spicebird. I disovered Spicebird a few months ago and i'm using the portable version since then. I would like to translate Spicebird to romanian (as in Romania-not as rromanes or rroma a.k.a the gipsy language). So, i downloaded the language pack extension and installed (at least that was my intention) to Spicebird using Tools menu->Add-ons. Guess what, a message appears telling me that the extension is incompatible with Spicebird!?! Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated!
I see lots of people finishing various translation but i just don't know where and how to begin such task. Help please!

Hey you are very here!

To translate spicebird langpack, you must
1. send a common PM to both Fenian and sunilmohan telling them about your intentions so that they fill the Romanian files of the wts with the last thunderbird/calendar ro-RO files (they are part of the Spicebird langpack, so it spares you a heavy work)
2. register on the WTS and translate... I suggest you should call other Romanian contributors to help, it is much recommended to work as a small team.

For information, the langpack as available on the wts cannot be installed directly in Spicebird, sunilmohan will tell you what to do if you want to test an use

Welcome to the Spicebird/BabelZilla community. As goofy mentioned, you can send a private message to Fenian who will fill the strings from Thunderbird and Lightning. After that you can start the traslation on Babelzilla.

Also, as we are in a transition phase to newer version of Thunderbird, I would ask you to first concentrate on files in the collab/ directory.



No language packs are available for Spicebird Beta 0.4. The languages packs available are for the upcoming 0.7 version and they work with Spicebird Beta 0.7pre release nightly builds which are meant for testing. The Italian translation is ready. I asked today for the QA testing to the Italian members.

Hey congratulations , this is very good news, we are eager to see the Italian langpack released soon, and as many languages as possible too!

In the mean time I required the QA on Mozilla, since in the past the same request was made on Extenzilla and Luca (l0stintranslation) told me to start the QA there. However, I have been required to answer two questions for which I don't know the answers.
2- is it possible to extract the phrases created for Spicebird and that have no correspondence with the other Mozilla programs?

I hop that Goofy or Sunhil can help me. WIthout these information the QA cannot start.

If you come across any bugs in Spicebird code/builds/i18n you can file a bug in the Spicebird bugzilla. I usually watch all bug activity and I will try to fix them as quickly as possible.



Yes, there is strict separation between Spicebird strings and rest of Mozilla strings. Only strings in the "collab/" directory belong to Spicebird and they belong exclusively. All the rest of the directories are Thunderbird/Lightning/Platform strings and they are kept in perfect order as in upstream.

If you have made any changes in non-Spicebird directories, you can easily contribute your changes to Thunderbird and Lightning project.

Sorry but my previous post was incomplete. The first question was if the phrases are regularly updated with the corresponding phrases of Mozilla programs. This is necessary in order to keep TB and SB aligned in the future. If I understood well, however, this is done, so there should be no problems.

Yes the rest of the strings (pertaining to Thunderbird, Sunbird...) is very regularly automatically updated as Sunil mentions


So the only thing that you could point to Flod is the collab subdirectory, the only one with Spiebird specifics.

Yes, as Goofy said, we do sync with upstream Mozilla strings. Currently, we are doing it like the source code. We get all the Thunderbird strings from the same date as Thundebird release which was 3.0 Alpha 2 for 0.7 release. We could also merge translations from latest trunk if required.

So, if Thunderbird is translated, Spicebird will benefit from it. If the translator changes a Thunderbirg string in BabelZilla, it will be retained and given priority over Thunderbird translation.

Sunil, I think that, for the common strings, it is always better to use the "official" Mozilla version. For example, in Sunbird there are some strings that have to be corrected (maybe they have, but they must still be transferred to the official downloadable version). I changed them in Sunbird but I am not sure that my version is exactly that chosen by Sunbird people. So, if my strings will have the precedence, we will lose all the work made for Sunbird.

By the way, we made a first check of the translation. Changes have been applied to a lot of files, but I was not able to find them in the /latest-trunk-l10n/linux-xpi/ folder. Can you prepare a new XPI file to be tested directly on the program?
