Yep. I was just now testing it in a Hebrew build of Firefox 24 ESR, and it looks great. I think I've fixed the few RTL issues that popped up. (parts of the about dialog were broken in beta 3)

Thanks again for the updates and testing!

The blog and support forum are in English, so I don't think there's a problem leaving the links in English. The download link... yeah, an argument could be made that I should localize that. For now it's fine, though. I'm not going to submit any new strings to the WTS before final release. It's just a single string in the about dialog, which hardly anyone will see.

I probably should label that something other than just "download", as it points to the full AMO page. (it should redirect to the localized AMO page, assuming the locale is available) I'll do something with it after the final release.

I've already had one PM on the topic, so to make it easier to check the credits list for any changes you might want, I'll post the whole thing here. It's stored in about.xul in 3 lists and the scrollbox gets generated from it.

Note that this is JS, so stuff inside /**/ or after a // is a comment, and is just in the file as a note. (i.e. the usernames don't show in the credits unless that's what's listed for the translator name explicitly) As of the fourth beta all currently incomplete locales are commented out. (they're not shown in the dialog nor are their files shipped in the installer)

I guess so, yes. Not many users will be interested in downloading the add-on if they are looking at the About screen. After all, they have already downloaded it then. closedeyes.gif

I am all for complete localization, including well-hidden strings like this wink.gif

Wow, the build the WTS spits out is all sorts of mangled and broken. It's mangling the install.rdf horribly, doesn't work with restartless addons, and makes an utter mess of things. Nice idea; does not work.

DO NOT TEST USING A BUILD GENERATED BY THE WTS FOR ANY REASON.

Sorry, you're going to need to download the actual full build I uploaded to the WTS, unzip it, put your files in, rezip it, then install that to test. There is no internal JAR anymore so it's easier to do.

The localized build generator should work for restartless addons as well now, please report any further issues with it.

The localized build generator should work for restartless addons as well now, please report any further issues with it.

It's still broken, just less so. The first core problem is that to generate this build it's writing a new install.rdf, rather than making minor edits to the real one. To break restartless support it left out the relevant lines, which are now back, but it's still leaving out other parts. For example, in Flagfox I have to use a custom about dialog so I can properly credit Maxmind's database data (as is a requirement of using it). This credit is translated. The WTS build leaves out the line that sets up the use of the custom about dialog, thus providing no way to test its localization in these test builds. It also cuts out the "icon64URL" line which tells the Addon Manager where to get the logo for the more details view.

Even if that was fixed, honestly, I really don't like the way this is implemented. It generates a build with a new ID. You should not be doing this. This is just a horrible idea. If the real version and this are installed at the same time, things will break in unpredictable ways. It's not like you've changed the ID for the chrome mapping in all the places, too. (which would be an even worse idea)

As I have already said, I like this concept. However, at this time, I would recommend all translators avoid this feature at all costs for all addons.

For this to be safe and practical, the test build should just provide an automated way to do things the normal way. It should just build a version identical to the one uploaded to the WTS but with the new locale files put in there. (with zero changes to any other files, including the install.rdf)

Quick note to those of you currently working on translating the first run page. The link to the full changelog will not be available until the final release, seeing as I have yet to post the full changelog. That's why this link is currently not available in the test versions that are up at the moment. The others should work, though.

Also, the download and contributions links in the side-bar are not supposed to show for the first-run page. I'm adding exceptions for each page to make sure they are hidden there, but please point it out to me if I've missed one. Each one of these localizations has to be put up by individually.

Edited to add: Also, some of the paragraph/line spacing is off in the HTML file I gave for translation because this is HTML that will go into a Wordpress page, and it'll handle <br/> by itself fine. Check the English version if you want to see how it will be laid out.

Hello Dave, find attached the Spanish version of Run page.
I have used UTF-8 and it seems OK, but it would be safer if you test it.

Yeah, just use UTF8 for everything. smile.gif

For those doing translations that didn't notice, yes, the spacing is off in the HTML file provided. It's HTML to be put into a Wordpress page, not a stand-alone file (though it does load as one). You don't need to add <br/> and <p> elements yourself. I'll make sure it's in there correctly. Sorry, I should have mentioned that in my initial message when I sent the file out.

The pages are going up now for testing, however they're not linked to by anything yet. Here's the English version and the locales that have already submitted their versions:
https://flagfox.word...ox-5-whats-new/
https://flagfox.word...5-whats-new/de/
https://flagfox.word...5-whats-new/es/
https://flagfox.word...5-whats-new/fr/
https://flagfox.word...5-whats-new/ru/

The locale selection links section at the bottom will have 404 links until all of them are up. The link to the changelog is also going to not be in there until that's ready. The AMO link is localized.

I probably missed something, but where is the original file?

I mentioned earlier in this (ever winding) thread that I had to prioritize locales for the first-run page. It's being hosted on my blog and each locale gets its own page, so there's a bit more work to put it up and test things than with in-addon strings. Putting up 40 or more separate pages and testing that all is just out of the question, for the moment. I decided I had to draw an arbitrary line and just make sure I cover at least the top 90% of users' languages. That arbitrary line was drawn at ten thousand users or more, which equates to English plus the following nine other locales:

Russian, German, French, Polish, Italian, Spanish, Chinese (simplified), Japanese, & Brazilian Portuguese

This set of 10 languages covers around 92% to 94% of all current Flagfox users.

I sent the file to the main (currently not busy) translator for each of those locales in a group PM.

Now... I could be convinced to add another to the list. I know the line is arbitrary. I've also gotten a little better at handling the needed bits to get the files up. I still have to put it all up manually, but I've gotten faster at it with each file and I've fixed a few issues that made things a little more finicky. If I lower the threshold to five thousand users, that adds another 4 languages: Czech, Greek, Traditional Chinese, & Dutch. That's another 3% of the Flagfox user-base, which is not insignificant. I think I've convinced myself that 4 more is OK to handle, so I'll send out the file to this second batch in a bit.

Edited to add: OK, PM sent with file to second batch of translators.

Getting close to release. I wanted to do it yesterday, but I still have pending localizations. If you want to get your first-run page in, please contact me ASAP even if you can't complete the work today. I can wait, but only if I know there's something I'm waiting on.

All AMO descriptions have been updated.

This URL will redirect to your localized version:
https://addons.mozil.../addon/flagfox/

(based on your set content locale)

If anyone makes any description.html updates after this point, please re-mark your locale as "released" and/or PM me to update AMO with your new changes.

Ok, unless one of the translators who have still not responded to the PM or emails about the first-run page manages to contact me within the next few hours, it's looking like the final list of locales supported in the first-run page will be:

English · Deutsch · Français · Español · Italiano
Pyccĸий · polski · Nederlands · Ελληνικά · Português (Brasil)

I really would like to get some East Asian localizations, however nobody has checked in. :(

This list of locales covers about 93% of the Flagfox user-base. The rest will get English.

Flagfox 5.0.0 uploaded to WTS and soon to AMO.

No new first-run page localizations can be accepted. Any locale updates can be put in the 5.0.1 update to be released sometime next month. Any first-run page changes or AMO description changes can be put up whenever needed.

Flagfox 5.0.9 uploaded to WTS and AMO.

A minor typo in the es-ES locale was reported by a user and easily corrected. Country names are easy enough to look up in dialects that have Wikipedia pages for that country. (was just an extra 'i')

This also brings the version on the WTS up to date, which is needed if anyone wants to use it with multiprocess Firefox (e10s), now currently on by default in the nightlies. Changelog is here if anyone wants it:
http://flagfox.net/f...4...=552&p=1808

No reset statuses or notifications sent.
