Spicebird underwent a major change in code base and is set for a new release. Here is an update:
All set for releasing Spicebird 0.7: We expect to release Spicebird in a week as all the work for the release is finished. However, some strings were introduced in the recent time into Spicebird code. These need to translated as soon as possible if you wish to see your locale 100% translated for 0.7 release. The new strings are new available in BabelZilla.
Nightly builds for many locales: Spicebird and Mozilla based applications suffered with the problem if a locale is incomplete, it can't be built. Hence, earlier, we made a nightly build for a particular locale only after all the work on the locale is complete. However, with improvements to the build process we are now building nightlies and language packs for almost all locales. This should help you test Spicebird in your locale even when it is not complete. English strings will appear where ever a message is not translated. Fewer locale bugs: If a string was missing from translation, it caused problem with parts of Spicebird not working correctly. Now, which the process of putting en-US strings when a locale string is missing, we will not anymore have such problems. All previous such problems have disappeared.
Releasing incomplete locales: We are planning to release localized builds with 0.7 even if the locale is not 100% complete. This is in line with how many other free software projects (like GNOME) release their locales. However, we will rate a particular localized build based on its completion status so that users have an indication of the quality of the build.
Using Thunderbird 3.0a2 strings: Earlier, Spicebird used translated strings from April 4th of Mozilla translations. Now it uses strings from Thunderbird 3.0a2 release. This is because Spicebird code itself is now using Thunderbird 3.0a2 code. BabelZilla has been loaded with new set of strings and their translations as available from Mozilla. All the translations that you have done have been retained (unless the string itself has been removed from code). The significance of this process is that many of the previously untranslated strings might have gotten translated because of import from Mozilla and some new untranslated strings may have gotten introduced.
